Journey Based Programmes
Sutherland open canoe and mountaineering journey
An adventurous expedition taking you into the heart of Sutherland and the Inverpolly Nature Reserve. Our specialist canoe and mountaineering guides will take you to some of the most remote and inaccessible spots in Sutherland whilst we journey through this beautiful landscape. Delivered over five days and four nights the programme includes travelling by open canoe, ascending two iconic peaks, cooking and living in a remote environment. The significance of nature and our place within the natural world is central to our philosophy, through a journey based progamme we can take everything that we need with us to avoid having to use shops or facilities; by doing this we remain as independent as possible throughout and maximize the ’emersion into nature’ experience.
Day 1 –Meet in Elphin where the open canoe expedition begins, paddle into Loch Veyatie for our first overnight camp.
Day 2- Our journey continues up Loch Veyatie and into Fionn Loch, this has some of the most spectacular views of Suilven, one of Scotland’s most recognisable mountains which we will have the opportunity to ascend… Return to our camp for the evening.
Day 3 – Canoeing Fionn Loch to Loch Sionascaig. Today we will learn the art of portaging! We will portage across to Loch Sionascaig and head for our wilderness campsite enjoying a well-earned rest and evening at our camp in the heart of the Inverpolly Nature Reserve.
Day 4 – Canoeing in Loch Sionascaig and ascent of Stac Pollaidh. From our camp we will ascend Stac Pollaidh giving stunning views across to the Western Isles. Upon return to our camo we will paddle across Loch Sionascaig for our last evenings camp.
Day 5 – Loch Sionascaig to Loch Buine Moire. We canoe through Loch Sionascaig for a short portage into Loch Buine Moire. A short paddle will bring us to the vehicles and to the end of our expedition.
