Activity Kit List

What to Bring:

Guided Rock Climbing and Rock Climbing Courses

Rucksack: For a summer climbing day you will need a 30-40 litre rucksack, as you may be required to help carry group equipment.

Comfortable footwear:  Approach shoes or lightweight boots are ideal as you may need to attach them to your harness and carry them up a multipitch climb.

Waterproof jacket and trousers: These should be breathable, waterproof and hardwearing. It is worth making sure that your trousers have zippers up the side to allow you to put them on over your boots. These can be left in the car, depending on venue and weather.

Clothing: It is best to avoid all cotton clothing. Wool or synthetic fabrics are perfect. In addition to walking layers of a base layer/T- shirt and trousers, it is recommended that you bring a thin fleece (or lightweight insulating layer) and thick fleece (or insulating synthetic layer). These spare layers should be placed in a dry bag (either a small waterproof stuff sac with a roll top or heavy-duty bin bags)

Hats: Hat choice will be dependent on weather conditions. In sunny conditions, a visor can be worn under a helmet (avoid peaked caps with metal buttons underneath helmets). In colder conditions, a thin woollen balaclava/buff can be worn. Whatever you decide to wear, it must be able to fit easily under a helmet.

***Items that can be borrowed, if required.

***Rock Climbing shoes: Your own pair of well-fitting climbing shoes will make climbing much easier! If you’re joining us for a day out learning to place trad gear or joining us for a multi-pitch climb, a pair that are comfortable to wear all day without having to take them off are preferred! Leave your ‘try-hard’ shoes at home.

***Helmet

***Harness

***Climbing Hardware: You Instructor/Guide will provide technical equipment as required. Please feel free to bring your own technical gear along and we can advise as to its suitability. Each individual client will need a belay device, a 120cm sling, 2 prussiks, 3 screw-gate karabiners and a nut tool/key.

Chalk bag and chalk

Water bottle or flask: It’s important to stay hydrated out on the rock and, as such, we recommend carrying a water bottle or flask, with the ability to hold 1L of water.

Sunglasses and sun cream: If sun is forecast these are well worth carrying, otherwise the day can become unbearable.

Insect repellent: Recommended for May to September courses.

Lunch

Personal medication and a small first aid kit
